About the Designers:
Alf Svensson and Yngvar Sandström were Swedish designers active during the 1950s and 1960s, renowned for their contribution to modern Scandinavian design. Together, they created furniture pieces that combined functionality and clean lines, achieving a perfect balance between elegance and comfort. Svensson, trained as an architect and industrial designer, collaborated with renowned Swedish manufacturers such as Ljungs Industrier and DUX, where he developed sofas, lounge chairs, and modular systems that embodied the rational yet inviting spirit of postwar Nordic design. His partnership with Yngvar Sandström produced iconic pieces such as the “Kontour” lounge series and the “Saturnus” lamps, where warm materials like wood were paired with light metal structures. Together, they helped define mid-century Swedish style, where form follows function without compromising beauty.
