About the designer:
Børge Mogensen was one of the most important Danish furniture designers of the 20th century and a key figure of what is known as Scandinavian modern design. He was born in Denmark in 1914 and studied at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he was a student of Kaare Klint.
His work is characterised by functional, solid and comfortable furniture designed for everyday use, made with honest materials such as solid wood and leather. Mogensen promoted the idea of creating “furniture for the people” — accessible, durable pieces intended for daily life — and collaborated with manufacturers such as Fredericia Furniture, with whom he produced some of his most well-known designs. Today his pieces are considered classics of post-war Danish design.
