These elegant three-legged chairs boast a delicate appearance. Curvaceous and sculptural, they feature exquisite details in both the seat and legs. The light and glossy leather is attached to the frame at three points, creating a floating seat effect. The lightweight steel frame supports the leather with three separate T-shaped metal rods connected by a black T-joint. This design earned the chair the nickname “T-Chair,” though its official name is “3LC/T-chair.”
Condition:
Very good vintage condition. The leather shows signs of use, adding patina and character to each chair. One chair has completely renewed leather.
Dimensions:
Each chair: 31.9 inches high, seat height: 16.9 inches, 23.6 inches wide, 20.1 inches deep
About the Designers:
In 1949, William Katavolos, Douglas Kelley, and Ross Littell, all alumni of the Pratt Institute in New York, formed a design partnership. Their studio became part of the 1950s Good Design movement, known for minimalist furniture made from lightweight materials. Together, they developed a series of furniture pieces called Laverne Originals, with the T-Chair being one of their most notable creations. This iconic chair design is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
