About the designer:
Werner West (1890–1959) was a Finnish furniture and interior designer who played a key role in introducing modern functionalism in Finland during the first half of the 20th century. After study trips through Scandinavia, Germany, and Italy in the 1920s, he developed a career focused on industrial design, creating durable and functional furniture as well as numerous interiors for public spaces such as banks, hotels, restaurants, and the Finnish Parliament in Helsinki. He worked with companies such as Stockmann and collaborated with manufacturers like Wilhelm Schauman, standing out for his use of bent wood, soft lines, and practical solutions designed for everyday use.
