About the Designer:
Torbjørn Afdal (1917 – 1999) was a prominent Norwegian furniture designer of the post-war period, born in the Voss region and trained at the National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Norway, graduating in 1946. Shortly thereafter, he joined Bruksbo Tegnekontor, where he became one of the most productive and influential designers of modern Scandinavian design. He created pieces with clean lines, noble materials such as teak and rosewood, and solid construction that are still considered design classics today. His best-known works include benches like the Krobo, bar furniture such as the Bacchus and Times series, and chairs like the Hunter or Minerva collection. His work received international recognition, including a gold award at the So Wohnt Europa fair in Munich, and his designs were appreciated by figures such as Jacqueline Kennedy and the Emperor of Japan, establishing him as a key figure in 20th-century Norwegian design.
