About the sculptor:
Christian Wirsén was a Swedish sculptor born in 1943 and who passed away in 2023, recognized for his remarkable career in contemporary Swedish art. In the late 20th century, together with sculptor Jens Tydén, he founded a bronze foundry in Forsbacka bruk, a historic industrial complex traditionally linked to iron and steel. In this space, Wirsén not only produced his own works but also created a place of artistic training where other sculptors could learn the complex techniques of bronze casting. One of the particularities of his approach was that artists had the possibility to rework their pieces directly in the foundry, allowing for a high degree of detail and customization in each work.
Christian Wirsén’s production is characterized by its expressiveness and richly textured surfaces, as well as by a sculptural style that combines organic forms with carefully crafted finishes. His work, both functional and purely artistic, reflects a deep connection with artisanal tradition and contemporary innovation, which has earned him a significant place within the Swedish art scene.
